Cyanotype is a 19th-century photographic printing process that produces a distinctive, deep Prussian blue monochrome print. Invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, it is a camera-less technique that relies on UV light (usually sunlight) to expose paper or fabric coated with iron-sensitive chemicals. The process is renowned for its simplicity, affordability, and, because it only requires water for development, it is a popular, non-toxic, and accessible form of alternative photography.
